Suits. This is one look that has been around for years so much that one would assume they would have fallen out of trend long ago. But, here’s the thing: Suits are timeless. They never go out of fashion.
Today, we are not going to talk about the classic power suit, but the blazer styles that made it to 2020 and the different ways to reimagine it so that it suits your summer look. We know what you might be wondering right now. Blazers and summer? Yes! Gone are those days when you went either all-formal or all-casual, or dressed according to seasons. Many fashion experts believe fashion is becoming more trans-seasonal and the concept of seasonal dressing is diminishing.
“In many ways transitional dressing is code for how real women dress. This type of dressing is built around season-less wardrobe essentials that can tackle any weather and always look chic. It’s also worth noting that ‘seasons’ as we used to know them might be a thing of the past. I prefer to think in terms of favorites I like to wear year-round: a beautiful trench, a sumptuous sweater, the perfect pair of jeans, a trophy shirt, a great sweatshirt, a sophisticated shirt-dress—these are items that are not bound to any season (or locale) and can be adjusted and layered as needed,” says Coco Chan, head of womenswear Stylebop.com, in Vogue.
That means your blazers need not be the attire that you pick just for work or those special occasions. You can mix and match it with your skirt, dress or shorts, and, if you are really creative (and bold), you can dress it down with your favorite pair of sneakers or sandals, and pull off a super chic transitional look. It might not be the ideal attire for EVERY office, but it is, definitely, a head-turner street wear or party outfit.
Now, it’s time to talk about the colors and patterns. This season, most fashion insiders and street style stars seem leaning towards solid color blazers. When it’s summer, you can no longer stick to neutral colors, you have to go bold. Both Heron Preston and Sies Marjan had showcased blazers in shades of bright yellow for their spring/summer 2020 collection. Yes, yellow (To be precise: Orangey-yellow is the shade for this season) has still made it to the list of trending colors yet again. Other bright colors that are hot picks for this summer include bright scarlet (red), orange, biscay green and fuchsia. If you do not want to go for a solid color and is looking for a pattern, then we have the answer for that too: plaid. To give it a more modern look, go for plaids with emerald or jungle green.
One of our favorite picks from the runways and street style is the pairing of a bright blazer with a white/black crop or slip top, and finishing off to give the perfect formal-casual blend with shorts (A cut-off denim shorts would be the ideal choice here!) and sneakers. An advantage with this look is that it would work perfectly fine even if the blazers are a bit oversized. (Tip: Oversized or boyfriend blazers have been a popular street style look since last season. Designers like Gucci and Altuzurra had already introduced them in their 2019 collection, and the look is catching up with many fashionistas now.) If you are looking for a look that is leaning more towards the sophisticated side and less towards casual, then pair your blazer with a chic slip dress or skirt and white crop top, and add high heels to accessorize. Any way you decide to wear it, we believe this office-turned-street style look is unquestionably a head-turner.
